I trust this will give everyone the opportunity to cool their heads. [She's getting better at slang, look at that. c:] The Doctor had a point about the mystery of ports like these; though there is a certain misfortune in lacking a proper away team to study the environment.

[Annnd there she is on the boat with a really. Big. Gun. She's holding it like a plasma rifle, but it looks kind of big and ridiculous, even if it's not heavy.]

[He arrives in clothing appropriate to such ventures, one of the swords he got from Chang in tow. He quirks a brow at the gun, but says nothing.]

[She eyes the sword, but once he's close, she holds out the gun.] I believe you're familiar with this make?

[Both eyebrows go up at that, but he accepts it nonetheless. He's silent a moment, testing the gun's weight.]

[T'Pol nods.] Good. You'll have it for the duration of port. Assuming it isn't misused, we'll discuss other weapons you'd like returned after we return. [That eyebrow is asking if that's acceptable.]

[He meets her gaze with a level one of his own and nods, once.

It's acceptable.]

[EXCELLENT They are in agreement.] Then I suggest we disembark and begin some exploration of the island.

[That earns a flicker of a smile.]

[Smile, what are you. She inclines her head, then leads the way off the boat to start looking for dinos. :|]

[It is the smile of a hunter who hasn't actually hunted in what feels like forever. He keeps his anticipation well in hand, though, as he follows her off the barge.

Aside from the excitement, he'll have to keep a weather eye out for any threats to their small company.]

[Oh, they will so be on guard for the dinos. T'Pol's even got her phase pistol with her, NOTHING SHALL TOUCH THEM until they get screwed, anyway.]

Have you ever seen one?

I saw a holographic projection of several skeletons during my time in San Francisco, but I've never seen a live dinosaur. [And she is arching an eyebrow and glancing at him.]

I was under the impression they were extinct in your time.

There's an island in the south Pacific, midway between New Zealand and Tonga. Sometimes, it's there; sometimes, it's not.

They live there, still.

A vanishing island? [Ignore tshe doubt in her tone. It's default.]

[EYEBROW TWITCH. That sounds ridic, but...] I studied reports of what may have been dragons, once. I doubt they have much in common.

Not at length, but they are an important part of your history. It was part of the required study for all ambassadorial candidates to Earth.

[He quirks a brow.]

How was it?

Earth research? [She quirks one right back.] It was interesting, but vague. I had to learn colloquialisms, and some historical points that my crew mates considered important, that the Vulcan consulate did not.

[Not what he meant, but-]

You've never been there.

[Almost, sort of a question, but also kind of not.]

Of course I have been. Though the better part of my exposure to humans was off-planet.

[A beat] Did you mean Earth itself? I found it extremely...interesting. It's very different from Vulcan.

[Shifting the weight of his pack and weapons, he's silent a moment before answering.]

How is it different?

[Given T'Pol's behavior as a child, he has a few guesses, but it never hurts to ask.]

The climate on Earth follows a great range; most of Vulcan is very warm and dry. [She quirks and eyebrow briefly, amused.] The cultures clearly differ. Vulcans consider things private that humans share in first meetings.

[Interesting.

He opens his mouth to reply -- and stops. Pauses to listen, his stance alert.

Mouth thinning, he gestures briefly, indicating silence. There's something up ahead.]

[She can smell it. Her nostrils flare briefly before she reaches for the phase pistol at her hip, eying the bushes ahead of them.]
