What can I do to keep him from causing more damage? Is there anything that I can do to help you?

[A glance, and T'Pol swallowed with some difficulty before answering.] He's angry. He'll tire himself out. [Sounds suspiciously like she's talking about a child.]

[She nods, giving T'Pol the only small, polite smile that she's able to muster.]

I understand. I apologize for threatening him. The boy -- 11-12 -- he's.. well, I'm sure you can imagine.

...and what of you, T'Pol? Can I get you anything?

I can imagine, [she said quietly. She didn't have the energy to stop him at every turn. She did have enough to shake her head slowly, though.]

No. I will be fine. [Eventually.] Thank you.

[Inara set down a small metal carafe next to her.]

Tea, if you need it.

[She inclined her head in a small bow and turned to leave.]

[She didn't waste the effort in another thank you, but inclined her head slightly; tea was always welcome.]

[Sam looked up from his journal to spot T'Pol across the infirmary. He'd been shot in the head by Mr. Smith in the riot and his head was pounding, but at least he had good company, right? He made an effort to lopsidedly sit up (and to keep the contents of his stomach down)and looked at her weirdly.]

Your hair's gone.

[Fff. She glanced toward him, but couldn't keep that up for long. Secret shame is...kind of secret. T'Pol shifted, nodding a little awkwardly.]

[Sam just smiled a little.]

Looked weird anyway.

[He paused, why so awkward Sam?]

[Because he's made of awkward. She nodded slightly, fighting her own aches and pains.]

[So talkative. But after a moment, she glanced up at him again.]

[Sam looked a little confused as he regarded her.]

[Awkward awkward awkward she doesn't even know how to approach this what the hell.]

[Sam just runs a hand through his hair.]

[Sam pauses to look awkwardly down at the hands folded in his lap.]

[Sam nodded. Oh, so, so awkward.]

[Sam looks up from his hands. Wait, another apology from her?]

No, it wasn't. [But she probably could have stopped it. Maybe. Guilt, she has a lot of guilt right now.]

[Sam swallows a little.]

Then, uh, don't worry about it. Guilt doesn't do anything but tear you up.

[Yeah, he knows what he just said. But ffff taking his own advice would be stupid. He's a manry man.]

I'm Vulcan. I don't experience guilt. [It was such, such bullshit but Sam's getting a pointed look anyway because FFFFF.]

[Sam's face shuttered up a little, eyebrows drawn in toward the bridge of his nose.]

Yeah, uh, nevermind then.

[Well. Whoops. She fell silent for a few moments, attention drifting before she slid it back to him.]

[Sam just nods.]

[Okay. Silence is awesome, since talking is twelve kinds of not enjoyable.]
