No they aren't. We try and keep that from them.

We try, but it can't always be avoided when they just won't listen to the fact we're trying to help them. No one really believes in ghosts these days.

We don't believe in them in my time - though there are those who are inclined to. Enterprise once encountered a ship that was thought to be haunted.

Because a crashed ship likely experienced an explosion and that would cremate the bodies, making it impossible for spirits to manifest.

[That gets a considerate pause.] There was a containment failure, but two members of the crew dig survive. The holograms were created as company.

Cremation avoids such manifestations?

Oh, that's actually not completely unheard of. But, uh, yeah, normally burning the body will prevent that.

'Normally?'

Sometimes not every piece of the body is burned. A lock of hair missed can be enough for a spirit to manifest.

Does that happen often?

It happens often enough that we get called in for it.
