[Someone who looks very much like T'Pol is sitting in T'Pol's room. But she's also a hell of a lot more poised than T'Pol, and much more in control of her emotions. There isn't even a hint on her face of what she (totally isn't) feeling.]

This isn't quite what I expected, when my daughter said she was pursuing a Starfleet posting. A penal ship, in unknown space. [Her eyebrow twitches upwards for all of two seconds. That's about as much commentary as she has.]

I understand she's already graduated an inmate. Mister Snape, I would like to speak to you.

And Mister Wilson [Paaause] if you are awake, I would like to speak to you as well.

I would like to know how T'Pol has been fairing. [Meaning she saw her hippie post about growing long hair and being happy to help people and what is that shit.]

Actually they have by the time T'Pol gave me a copy. I would lend you mine if you had the time while you were here.

[Kay loves aliens so much. So much.] I'll have it by her quarters by this evening. Give you enough time to satiate your curiosity with her friends. Are you comfortable otherwise?

Curiosity is an emotion. I am performing a mother's duty. [She actually means it, too, it's not just an excuse like T'Pol would use.] I am comfortable, yes. [Paaause] T'Pol keeps a pet in her quarters?

No offense meant, ma'am. Just a human turn of phrase. [He wouldn't question either one of them on it. Not unless he had a really good idea.] Yeah, that might be my fault.

I told her that she reminded me of a cat, and she looked into them and someone ended up giving her one as a gift. They're usually very docile animals and not very demanding companions. [He's assuming she doesn't know all that much about them either.] Hers has some unusual vocalizations for a cat.

It has yet to make any noise. It seems largely content to lie in one spot. [Khoteth pretty much peeked at her when she appeared, sniffed around, and went back to sleep. best guard cat ever.] What attributes do you find similar?

Well, um... Dogs are known for their very expressive faces. Cats express themselves through other means, but they keep the same facial expression. They have very attentive eyes, and when they want to know something they won't give up until they figure it out. The points on Vulcan ears remind me of the cat ear shape, and they're very graceful. They have good sense of balance and they move with ease.

[And a lot of them are too smart for their own good.]

[T'Les is arching an eyebrow, just briefly.] I see. And she was - curious, when you mentioned this.

She looked into it, yeah. Several wardens on board have cats. [He just has a fish, though. A spiny poisonous trouble fish.] They actually purr if you stroke their fur, too. Most people are calmed by that.

I will take your word on the matter. [She doesn't think she wants to go touch the cat. She's more concerned about T'Pol's expression of curiosity.]

She has not...lost control?

Well, she did it during a slow spot. Not a lot was going on, so I just thought she had nothing better to do outside of the usual research which always yields the same inconclusive results. No ma'am, I don't believe she's lost control at all.

She always was curious. [It's neutrally spoken, but you can almost imagine the affection and the worry there.]

Like a cat. [A touch amused, because he's human and he can get away with it.] But I wouldn't worry, ma'am. She does her very best to represent the Vulcan people in a positive and diplomatic light with no needless conflict and her experience shines through.

[She nods, and if he really looks, he might see she looks satisfied.] Good.
